Respected Jamie, Gurbani in Guru Granth Saheb has been written in poetic form organised in musical notes (ragas). Guru Saheb has used metaphor/ simile from history/ mythology/ everyday life to make it easy to understand the central idea. Main focus is to groom my mind or to teach me the art of living a blissful life by getting rid of vices and assimilating godly virtues in my inner personality. A learner is to focus on that.

Further development of fetus take place in female’s body by taking nourishment through blood by intra-attached umbilical cord. We should try to understand the main message given to me i.e how I should get rid of vices, assimilate godly virtues in my inner personality and live a blissful life by practising those virtues in my everyday life. Hope this will help you. Your queries are welcomed.

See lessStage 1. Sikh – a person influenced by the teachings/ history/ culture / art of living a blissful life by our great Guru through Gurbani, decides to learn and follow that path, is said to be a Sikh of Guru. We can equate it to as admission in school of Sikhi.
Stage 2. Singh – besides learning the art of living a blissful life from my Guru by how to get rid of vices, assimilate godly virtues in my inner personality and practise these qualties in my everyday life, when I come to know that God is a perfect creator, His creation is also perfect, I am not to distort even minute part of my body i.e not to remove even a single hair from my body, then I become a Singh. I am firm in following the basic doctrines of 1 Naam japna- for my inner personality development 2- Kirat Karo- for my economic needs and 3 Vand Shako – for helping the person in need. I can equate this stage of my mind as passing the degree level of my study.
Stage 3 Khalsa- When I pledge not to deviate in any circumstances the path selected as a Singh, and have a will power to fight the oppressors/ forces doing injustice to the society, I am Khalsa. (sant-sipahi). We can equate this state of mind as having passed Postgraduate/ doctorate level. Only this state of our mind can provide long lasting equality, universal brotherhood and well of all in the society. This form of society was visualised by our great gurus.
I deeply care for my parents and don't mind helping them, but they're against my chosen life partner due to his lower caste. Despite our strong bond, they're giving me an ultimatum to leave him or them. Gurbani stresses respect for parents, but how do I proceed when they're in the wrong and unwilling to compromise? If I move out for my relationship's sake, does it go against Maharaj's teachings or is it a valid choice?
Two options before parents: (1) if their opposition is based on the criteria of so called caste of the girl, then they are wrong as Guru Saheb has totally condemned this : ( srigranth.org – 15) ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ Read more

(2) If their decision is based on the facts that girl’s mind is groomed in environment contrary to the teachings of Guru Saheb, then they may be right. For living a blissful social life consensus between couple is MUST about the fundamental doctrines of Gurmat.
” Anand Karaj is not only a sanskar between a couple for propagating human race but an union between two FAMILIES with a common aim to live a blissful life by following teachings of our great guru besides sharing and caring each other.”
You are a best judge about this. Decide accordingly.
How can we overcome anger and channel it productively when faced with frustrating situations and people who offend or irritate us, allowing us to see “God in all”?

Guru Nanak Sahib at Kartarpur, during the last period of his life, gave a chain of three golden doctrines of ” Naam Japo, Kirat Karo and Vand Shako” to lead a blissful life. 1 Naam Japo – To keep away vices and to imbibe divine qualities, always remember God, meditate on Him through Gurbani ( because there is no difference between divine rules and the teachings of Gurbani) with the ultimate goal of becoming a righteous person and union with God. 2 Kirat Karo – To fulfill the economic needs of self, family and other social needs. 3 Vand shako – To help the needy when in need. Question- Do you think that it is necessary to follow these principles for the sake of permanent peace, human community, equality, harmony and welfare of all in the world or any other way/ideology can be useful?
