Respected Adam;
Thank you for a very thoughtful question.
I am not sure if there is direct answer to your question in Sri Guru Granth Sahib but based on my knowledge of Sikhi fundamentals please allow me to respond.
The simple answer to your question is Yes, A Sikh should wear a turban, hair or no hair.
One of the reasons for wearing a turban is to keep one’s hair on the head well covered and in place. It is not the only reason.
You might know that Rajputs, who do not have long hair on their head but they used to wear turban. Even some Hindus, and a lot of Muslims also wear a turban as well. At weddings most Indians, regardless of the religion wear a turban.
Reason is that in that culture, wearing a turban is a mark of respect. pride in heritage as well. Sikhs keep that tradition. A turbaned man was and still is considered a leader, a Sardaar.
Hope this helps.
