What is the meaning of Gurudwara?

ਉਪਰ ਵੀਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਧੀਆ ਜੁਆਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁੱਝ ਹੋਰ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਸਾਂਝੀ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹਾਂ।ਧੰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਲੈਕੇ ਧੰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੱਕ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ।ਧੰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਣ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ।ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਸਕੂਲ, ਆਤਮਜਗਿਆਸਾ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਗਿਆਨ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਆਚਾਰੀਆ, ਰੋਗੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਸਫਾਖਾਨਾ,ਭੁੱਖਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਅੰਨਪੂਰਣਾ,ਮੁਸਾਫਿਰਾਂ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ਰਾਮ ਘਰ।ਸੋ ਕਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਇਸ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਹਰ ਲੋੜਵੰਦ ਦੀ ਹਰ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਦੀ ਪੂਰਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਸੀ /ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਹੋਇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇਸੀ।।(730)
ਭਾਵ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਕੇ ਹੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।ਇਸ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆਕੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣਵਾਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।ਇਥੇ ਆਕੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਲੈਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੰਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

From the time of Dhan Guru Nanak Sahib Ji to the time of Dhan Guru Arjan Sahib Ji, the Gurdwara was called Dharamshala. From the time of Dhan Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Dharamsala was called as a Gurdwara. As it is a school for students, a teacher of knowledge for the self-interested(atam jagyasa), a hospital/pharmacy for the sick, a feast for the hungry, a resting place for the travelers. It means that one gets insight only by coming to the Gurudwara. It is only by coming to this door that one becomes virtuous.
