It is my belief that Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji is our 11th guru. Is that not true?

I believe this question needs clarity. With utmost respect we call SIKH MASTERS GURUS. Let us keep in mind that according to spiritual philosophy of NANAK GURU IS SHABAD, BANI, BANI GURU GURU HAI BANI. Saint Kabir says KAHO KABIR MAIN SO GUR PAYA JA KA NAO BIBEKO (DIVINE WISDOM, BANI). GURU HAS BEEN ONE AND ONLY, BANI from the time of NANAK TO GURU GOBIND SINGHJI. SAREER OR PHYSICAL BODY IS NEVER THE GURU. BANI ADD SACH HAI. The whole point is that as SIKHS we do not want to be attached with SAREER, BABAS, BRAMHAM GIANIS OR WORST APPEARANCE. GURU GRANTH SAHIB IS NOT ELEVENTH GURU, IT IS THE ONLY GURU. Other scholars please comment on this issue.
Great explanation Harbans Singh Ji
Dr. Kandola Sahib and Dr. Bhupinder Kaur has rightly answered. We are told that Guru Gobind Singh gave Guruship to Guru Granth Sahib. But we must remember that Guru is Bani, not physical body.
AGGS 982
Bani Guru Guru Hai Bani Vich Bani Amrit Sare || Gur Bani Kehai Sevak Jann Manai Partakh Guru Nistare ||5||
The Word (Bani) is Guru, and Guru is the Bani. Within the Bani, the Ambrosial Nectar (Virtues) is contained. If God’s humble servant believes, and acts according to the teachings of the Guru’s Bani, then Guru emancipates him.
It’s not just your belief but it’s the fact that Guru Gobind Singh Ji has given Gurutagadhi to our now living Guru . Guru Granth Sahib ji.
The Guru Granth Sahib was composed predominantly by six Sikh gurus: Guru Nanak, Guru Angad, Guru Amar Das, Guru Ram Das, Guru Arjan, and Guru Tegh Bahadur. It also contains the traditions and teachings of fourteen Hindu Bhakti movement sants (saints), such as Ramananda, Kabir and Namdev among others, and one Muslim Sufi saint: Sheikh Farid.
First one must understand the difference between Jaagat and Jeevan as both have a concept of being alive.
Jeevan is a physical existence based on scientific principles: some notion of an organized structure, requiring mass and energy, stimuli respondent and adaptability to habitat & environmental – these are broken down further into being capable of reproduction, growth, movement, metabolism, and death.
Jaagat however has a different meaning which is defined by three attributes of virtue: living, awakened and divinely enlightened. This can be translated to spiritually existing thus spiritually alive. Bhagat Kabeer staes in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib:
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜਾਗਤਾ ਹੈ ਦੇਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ Satgur Jaagta Hai Deyo – SGGS 479 Rag Asa Bhagat Kabir
The Guru-Bani literally means the Guru’s word which is the Shabad. The soul resides in the Shabad which is the Gurubani.
Sri Guru Gobind SIngh Ji Maharaj is of the same shabad and arthma as the Gurbani which is why he initiated it as being the eternal Guru: “By the Command of the Timeless Being the Order of the Khalsa was ordained. “All Sikhs are enjoined final injunction of the Tenth Master, Guru Gobind Singh, to accept the Granth as the Guru.” – Ardaasa
Our daily interaction and level of understanding of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib defines our relation to the soul of the Guru as the Word-Guru as a command for us to experience in this life with utmost humility, supplication, constant observation and surrender to Naam.
Therefore, The Gurbani is the arthma and embodiment of the eternal Guru which, through it, one can submit to the Command (Hukam) of Sat Gur Prasad.
