In the time of Dhan Guru Gobind Singh, some people used to celebrate Holi. They used to ruin clothes by throwing paint / colour on each other. Guru Sahib started a different kind of sports competition these days to divert people from this vile custom. On this day horse riding, wrestling, fencing and imitation competitions were held and prizes were also given to the winning teams.
Hola means attack
Mohalla means place of attack
On this day, there was a competition for armor education.

ਧੰਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਲੋਕ ਹੋਲੀ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਉਤੇ ਰੰਗ ਸੁੱਟਕੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਘਟੀਆ ਰਿਵਾਜ ਤੋਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਟਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਖੇਡ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਘੋੜ ਸਵਾਰੀ, ਕੁਸ਼ਤੀਆਂ , ਤਲਵਾਰਬਾਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਕਲੀ ਲੜਾਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਜੇਤੂ ਟੀਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਨਾਮ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ।
ਹੋਲਾ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਵ ਹੈ ਹਮਲਾ
ਮਹੱਲਾ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਵ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ
ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਸ਼ਸ਼ਤਰ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ।
