I always pray and say SATGURU give me the strength, wisdom to live my life according to your divine message..
I pray that my life becomes synchronous with the message of Gurbani and my vices turn into virtues so that I can achieve an elated state of mind and feel bliss in my life.
He knows everything we want. it’s completely our own wish to say any praye. We can just bow not necessarily say a prayer
Just as we bow in front of an elderly known noble person, or our childhood teacher, to pay respect from the core of our heart, for their guidance to us, in the similar manner we are supposed to bow in front of the Gurbani Granth Sahib as a mark of respect for the Gurbani contained in it which guides us to improve our lives.
There arises no question of praying in front of the closed or open Saroop, as long as you yourself are not reading it to obtain some guidance. It should not be treated as an idol or deity to secure boons from it merely by doing an act of bowing in front of it !!
As far as prayer is concerned, it is always done in front of the, or to the, element of ੴ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ that resides within us, be it for gaining strength or improving the self after self realization. Prayer basically is an auto suggestion. There is no He or She somewhere around, who is expected to be hearing us !!
