- I recognise we must provide reverence to all sikh guru ji’s, but why do we have Kirtans chanting guru ji’s names e.g. Guru Ram das ko mili badai; surely we should only praise God and not have Kirtans for gurus, as this would go against what Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji preached?
Why do we have Kirtans chanting guru ji’s names?

Kiran is meant for getting enlightened with the help of Gurbani written in Guru Granth Sahib.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਏਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥- 199
Ritual singing or listening to the music is not going to help in any manner.
None of the Guru Sahibs have told to praise them. All have guided us to understand and follow the Hukam of Akal Purkh with the help of Gurbani.
Such type of single handed praising and wrongly stressing on unrelated line is highly misleading.
Unless we do not understand the Shabad Vichar properly, we can not improve ourselves.
Hence we should start putting more time in understanding the Gurbani than just listening to the ritual recitation.
