      Very good question.
AGGS 676
Duy Kar Jorr Kari Ardas || Charan Pakhar Kehan Guntas || Prabh Dayal Kirpal Hajur || Nanak Jivai Santa Dhur ||4||2||23||
Pressing my palms together, I offer my prayer. Folding hands and washing feet (Charan Pakhar) mean humbly. Ardas is done in humbleness of body (Folding Hands) and mind (Mann) by controlling ego.

When Ardas is done as part of congregation every able body person stands up in full attention with folded hands and Ardas is done in its entirety as prescribed. Most of the time, congregational Ardas is ritualistic. Ardas can also be done sitting, standing, lying or in any position. We do Ardas when sitting in the car with hands on steering wheel before starting car. Soldiers do Ardas lying in the battle field with gun in the hand. We do Ardas while lying on the bed before sleep. Such Ardas is silent or verbal consisting of few words or single sentence. Such Ardas is not ritualistic, but meaningful coming from core of heart i.e. conscious mind (Mann). So, there is no specific content and posture of body to do Ardas.
For more info listen to my youtube and read my book Gurmat Doctrines (Part 1) available on amazon.com for more such topics.

Ardas is basically heart-to-heart talk with your higher self. Ardas is the reinforcement and constant reminder to your mind of what you desire and what changes you want in your life. So there is no specific way of doing Ardas.

One can perform his Ardas in any physical posture. However, mental state is very important. Ardas is carried out so that one can lower his ego and prepare himself to listen to the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib.

We should beg and learn the way of living by understanding and following Gurbani.

Ardas performed through agents is not acceptable. We have to perform our own Ardas.
