What are the sources of authority in Sikhi? I know Gurbani is one of them, is there another one?
Guru Granth Sahib is the only source of Authority in Sikhism. Rest is literature, which needs to be read very carefully, applying the touchstone of Shabad Guru.
Dear Brother: I read that the corporate decisions of the Sikh Panth are also authoritative. Is this true?
Please guide the undersigned, about the corporate decisions you are referring to.
It says that Guru Gobind Singh left both the Guru Granth Sahib and the decisions made by the Sikh Panth as authoritative.
Respected Brother,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
Yes, it is said so in the literature. Sikh Panth refers to the entire society, community, fellowship or religious body of Sikhs all around the world.
But the Sikh Panth is required to take all its decisions, by applying the touchstone of Guru Granth Sahib i.e. Gurbani. If any decisions are taken by the Sikh Panth but the same are later found to be lacking on application of the said cardinal principle, then the same need to be revised.
The undersigned is quoting three stanzas of Shabads of Guru Granth Sahib in which the Guru is guiding us that all human beings are imperfect and only Akalpurakh and Shabad Guru, who are embodiment of each other, are perfect.
Therefore, there is every possibility that the decisions taken by the Sikh Panth are not perfect, when tested by applying the touchstone of Shabad Guru. Such decisions will need to be revised/replaced.
Hope it helps. If you have any further questions, please do ask. If you find any deficiencies, please point out the same, for improvement in future.
Regards,
Your Brother

Dear Brother:
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
I still don’t understand Gurmukhi, but I think your detailed and direct response is enough. Thank you.
Dear Brother,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
With your commitment and dedication you will soon be able to understand Punjabi/Gurmukhi. Also, now since you have Guru Granth Sahib in Spanish, therefore, from the Panna nos. given by the undersigned, you can read the stanzas/Shabads in Spanish and understand better what the undersigned has said in the reply.
Regards,
Your Brother
Sikh is the person who walks on sikhi What is sikhi ? Sikhi is the thought a thought process what is the thought process ? Thought process is the falsafa or the document of Nanak Who ever abides to this thought process is call a Sikh and the thought process is sikhi let the person belong to any caste or creed any religion Where do we get this knowledge the teachings of Nanak in the Guru Granth Sahib So it v important for us to understand the Gurbani so that we can be a true Sikh
Dear Sister:
Thank you for your wise response. I was mostly confused by the authority given by the Tenth Guru to the Sikh Panth (Community) decisions. I think that both yours and Brother Kulvinder’s responses make clear that the primary source of authority in Sikhi is Gurbani. However, the question remains open in regards to the Sikh Panth authority: has it been exercised so far? If so, How?
I may ask this in a different thread though.
