Hello. I am not a Sikh but I really like the idea of langar. I think that every religion should do something similar. Maybe they do but I don’t know.
I obviously can’t feed everyone but I’m going to help with an inter-faith dinner (there are plenty in my city). There are a few Sikhs. Muslims and Jews don’t eat pork, Hindus don’t eat beef.Do Sikhs have any food rules? What are people historically fed at a langar if some can’t eat beef and some can’t eat pork? Fish? Chicken? Vegetarian?
Langar is vegetarian so that everybody can enjoy it.
Thank you. That makes sense.
it is suggested that instead of conducting an interfaith dinner, for your fellow beings, please conduct a langar for the poor and the needy.
I’m not sure that I am allowed to due to a local law forbidding feeding homeless people (I’m not sure how strict the law is though) and a rule forbidding people cooking outside meals for people to give to them at homeless shelters.
The only thing that I can think of to get around that is donating cereal and food that won’t go bad to a local charity or I could maybe making a dinner for refugees.
It’s a very small capital.
Please do, as you feel comfortable and as is permissible under your local laws. However, the undersigned is of the opinion that whatever you do should be for the persons, who are needy and not for the persons, who can afford and are already well fed.
Yes that is wise.
