A Sikh is one who believes in one God/Akaal Purakh.
Meaning that he alone is a Guru’s Sikh, relative, friend, who walks in the way of Guru’ will and always live his life according to Guru’s Hukam/ will.
Gurbani starts with the following definition of Akal Purkh:
Jap – 1
Hence belief in Akal Purkh is must for a Sikh. Both can not be separated.
One cannot be a Sikh without believivg in one God.
