Important part is the message of Gurbani, Not where it was pronounced.
You are right Guru Nanak is supposed to have proclaimed that there is no Hindu Or a Muslim, this body and life in it are the gift of the Creator, some call ALLAH, other call RAM.
However in Guru Granth Sahib Ji the verse appears as:
ਨਾ ਹਮ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਨ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ॥ ਅਲਹ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰਾਨ ॥੪॥ (ਮ:੫, ਪੰ:੧੧੩੬)
(I am neither a HIndu nor a Muslim, this body and life within is the gift of ALLAH RAM)

This is an unrealistic story concocted by ਅੰਧਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ and now promoted by our uneducated ਪਰਚਾਰਕ।
As explained by Basi ji, we should focus more on the gist of the proclamation of Nanak Sahib, that no one belonging to any religion has any locus standi.
Nanak Sahib did not intend to start any new religion.
