There is no such reference that I am aware of in Gurbani,
Covering of one’s head is a way to express respect for the members present.
Due to complete gender equality in SIkhi, the dress code is same for both.
Turban has now become a part of Sikh dress however turban was and still is ,part of dress among non-Sikhs also, e.g. Afghans, Arabs, Iranians, Turks, Rajasthani, etc.
However social practice of the past was that girls / ladies wore CHUNNI and male members wore turban.
It is relatively a new trend in SIkhi for girls/ladies to wear a turban as well.
Remember there in no spiritual difference in wearing either.
