A Sikh is incomplete without Gurbani. In fact, Gurbani makes one a Sikh.
The meaning of Simran is to remember the almighty or Guru.
Hence both remembrance (Simran) and Gurbani are important.
One must understand the reasoning behind this, and internalize whether the methodology is serving the purpose. There can be a debate on the ‘methodology’ but there should not be any confusion on its need.
Kindly check this audio to understand the debate behind the methodology: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWt5Zbn-OaY&list=PLnkkt7UWfvhx8JkAOTCte72EkNOCbdkbo&index=2
As per my understanding, if only one family or friend or Gurdwara is doing SGGS ji paath and others are around different or partial ways, the vibrations of Simran/Gurbani recited in one place by one person, can reach far far ways to IkOnkar humanity.
If I do my Ardas to help my family and friends and community than Yes, IkOnkar will help them but IkOnkar knows what is best of me, family, friends, community, etc..
So please keep doing your Ardas, don’t give up on IkOnkar humanity and learn ways to live in IkOnkar Hukam.

Simran is not the ritual recitation of some particular word. Simran is the remembering the qualities of Akal Purkh with the help of Gurbani written in Guru Granth Sahib. The Shabad of Guru should always reside in our mind and actions.
Only that person gets benefitted who studies and follow Gurbani in his life.
If we eat something then our hunger is satisfied and not of someone else. Same rule applies here also.
