Wearing Kirpan by the groom at a wedding is just a ceremonial ritual. It has no religious significance.
There’s no such restriction of not taking out the kirpan.
A Khalsa, both men, and women are supposed to wear the kirpan at all times. The purpose of Kirpan is to bestow ‘kirpa’ (mercy on the downtrodden by his / her protection from oppressor) and ‘aan’ (defend for self-dignity).
