Dear Brother: thanks for your response. According to the following article the Ravidassia do not recognize all of the Adi Granth as sacred because Sikhs killed one of their leaders. What does Gurubani say about bathing in sacred waters? Despite the belief that it's prohibited, Sikhs are seen bathing in places like Golden Temple and Hemkunt Sahib Sarovar.
A Sikh must take a bath every morning. It doesn’t really matter where you take that bath or shower. (ang 305)

Sikhism conversion
Hello OL. Answering to your question “Mauricio, did you become a Sikh with your family or alone? Trying to find a place in a new religion alone has been quite difficult. What do you say to family members who want to un-convert you? Is this a just me problem or is it usual?” I’ve made the journey togRead more

See lessI’ve made the journey together with my wife. However, at this point we have stopped considering “religions” altogether, and just think of ourselves to be disciples (sikhs) of the Guru. We also consider Jesus to be a true Teacher, even though one has to filter a lot of Bible verses which were clearly not divinely inspired.
I understand the difficulty of your situation. Throughout years I have gotten a little isolated from family, friends and neighbors because of my evident search of the Truth, my way of thinking and, sometimes, my appearance (uncut hair, simple clothes, etc). My nearest relatives are not religious, so they don’t bother me as long as I don’t try to convince them.
My advise to you is as follows: you always have to honor your father and your mother as the Bible say. If both of them agree on something, that means it’s something worth considering it. I would try to get into an agreement with them so that they can understand and respect your religious decisions. As for any other family member, demand respect from them and put them aside if they don’t comply. As long as you’re good with God and with your parents, everything else will flow naturally in your favor.
Remember that God’s name is Truth… sometimes it’s very hard to accept that Truth.
Regards,
Your brother.

Your wisdom is greatly appreciated, Dr. Kala Singh. You have helped me a lot. Gurbani seems to support physical bath, but it does not provide a specific hour for that, though.

Dear Dr. Kala Singh: I appreciate your response. The YouTube video is in a language I cannot understand, unfortunately (punjabi, I suppose). I’ll keep on trying Brother. We understand our son is important, we are not going to abandon him or anything. It’s just that we thought that for approximately 20 minutes during morning and evening prayers we were supposed to give Akal Purakh priority. Our judeo-christian experience always tought us that the first and most important commandment is to love God above anything else. That’s why we were confused about those moments of meditation and prayer.

Great Brother. I will play that outloud through the speakers, for my family to hear it.

Of course, first thing we tried was for him to join us. We were reading Gurbani and praying in his room so that he could just play quietly or join us. But he would just get crazy trying to call our attention anytime we started to go deep into meditation or prayer.

Thank you Brother. We were trying to pray and ignore him at the same time. But the more we ignored him the worst he would get. We were losing our peace and patience that way.
