To answer your question in simple way is that GURBANI completely reject the concept of after life. Life is all about here and now. Does not matter how much worldly education one has or one has no worldly education makes no difference . Both face pain and suffering in life due to ego and ignorance.

Now coming to the word afterlife i.e. life after death, used by you in your question. You are already aware that Sikhism doesn’t believe in the theory of reincarnation. A person is alive as long as Akalpurakh, sitting inside the person, as what is called soul (ਆਤਮਾ), gives him strength. As soon as the strength is withdrawn, physical death takes place and the soul merges with Akalpurakh. What happens to the soul thereafter, no body knows. The five elements, of which the body is made of, merge with the earth and nothing is left. Therefore, there is no scope for any reincarnation. In Sikhism one can achieve emancipation/salvation in this life itself by changing life, getting rid of vices, becoming one with Akalpurakh and Shabad Guru, who are embodiment of each other and achieving the stage of spiritual equipoise (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ) and spiritual bliss (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਆਨੰਦ). Hope it helps.
