Hello,
My father was a Sikh, but not religious. He passed away almost a year ago. i still have his ashes in the funeral place. It’s just been devastating for me. How to i and where can i scatter his ashes in NJ.Please somebody help me with steps to take.i was also told ashes should never be brought home, is that true.Sorry for the poor knowledge as I am not Sikh
once the soul leaves the body the body can be buried burnt put into the river or given to the birds according to gurmat Do not live in illusion and doubts the ashes can be put in a nearby flowing river or sprinkled over the mountains No rituals r needed So be brave enough and dispose the ashes as soon as possible which ever way is convenient to you This is gurmat
Thank You Vindra Ji for the advise and knowledge.

Great question. Everyone of us will face death. In Sikhi we cremate the body.
I agree with Vindri Kaur Ji
Ashes are ashes part of the Mother Earth. There is no problem to bring home. We loved
the deceased when living why to worry bringing his ashes at home. We shouldn’t believe in superstitions.
I have told my kids to spread my ashes in front and backyard of my house. So was wish of my wife. If you cannot do this then go to stream/river closeby or find a closeby bushes to spread
God Bless your father’s soul and give courage to your family to bear this loss
Thank you so much for the advice and knowledge. i can now do the right thing. I will have a
prayer on his anniversary on 2/6/2022. Is it mandatory to scatter the ashes soon as possible.I just heard that a friend has his parents faces for 20 years, I kind of wonder if their souls are resting in peace.
It’s OK if you want some more time. Our soul ( life force energy) comes to us at conception and remains with us untill our last breath.
The body elements goes back to Earth. Our soul goes to where it came from (God). As we know the Energy doesn’t destroy but change into other form. Once we die no one comes back in any form, Sikhi doesn’t believe in reincarnation after physical death
Sorry for your loss Sharon Ji. Keep yourself strong. Listen to Gurbani and Keertan it will give you peace and strenth. Akaal Purkh Bliss!
