In Sikhi, “Sant” is not a title but a spiritual stage mentioned in Gurbani. It is not used to praise individuals; rather, it refers to Guru Sahib, Waheguru, or Gursikhs in plural. A saint is characterized by qualities such as being unattached to sins, pure in thought and deed, and dedicated to spreading “The Name” without being bound by rituals. A true saint sees God in everything, loves all, and remains humble. Guru Arjan describes a saint as one who realizes God’s presence, finds solace in kirtan, treats everyone equally, and follows personal and social ethics with humility. I request Sikh Scholars to correct me if im wrong.
According to Gurbani, Sant is an individual who has won his or her mind and treading the journey of life while overcoming all desires and vices.
