ਰਹਾਉ
ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਾਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ ਹੈ ਰੁਕਣਾ, ਠਹਿਰਨਾ ।ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਾਉ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ / ਮੁੱਖ ਭਾਵ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਸਾਰਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਇਸ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਭਾਵ ਦੀ ਪੂਰੀ ਵਿਆਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਰਹਾਉ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦ ਨੂੰ ਰੁਕਕੇ , ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ,ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸੌਖੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।ਕਈ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਰਹਾਉ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦ ਵੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਸਮਝਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਰਹਾਉ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਆਲ ਅਤੇ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੁਆਬ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।ਵੈਸੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਿਆਂ ਵੀ ਰਹਾਉ ਵਾਲੀ ਤੁੱਕ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਥਾਈ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਤਲਬ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਰਹਾਉ ਵਾਲੀ ਤੁੱਕ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਘਰ/ਘਰੁ
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਘਰ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਿਰਲੇਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਥੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਤਾਲਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ।ਰਾਗੀ ਜਥਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਦਾਇਤ ਹੈ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਇਸ ਘਰ ਭਾਵ ਇਸ ਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜਨਾ ਹੈ।ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਵਿੱਚ 1 ਤੋਂ ਲੈਕੇ 17 (੧-੧੭) ਤੱਕ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।ਜਿਵੇਂ
ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੧ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਏ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਘਰ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪੜਨਾ ਹੈ।
ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਘਰ ੨ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਘਰ ਦੂਜਾ
ਘਰ ੧੨ ਹੋਏ ਤਾਂ ਘਰ ਬਾਰਵਾਂ
ਘਰ ੧੭ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਘਰ ਸਤਾਰਵਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਪੜਨਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸਿਰਲੇਖ
ਮਹਲਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੧ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਹਲਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਘਰ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪੜਨਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ੧ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਪਹਿਲਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੋ ਵਾਰੀ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੜਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ੧ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਪੜਨਾ ਹੈ।ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ੧ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਹੀ ਪੜਨਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਥੇ ਵੀ ਸੰਕੇਤ ਹੈ ੨ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਜਾ ਪੜਨਾ ਹੈ ਦੋ ਨਹੀਂ।
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਚਉਥਾ
ਇਥੇ ਵੀ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ੪ ਨੂੰ ਚੌਥਾ/ਚਉਥਾ ਪੜਨਾ ਹੈ।
Rahau
Rahau is written in Shabads. It means to stop, to stay. In fact, it is a central / main meaning of the shabad. The whole shabad fully explains this central meaning. That is why it is said that the Rahau lines should be stopped and understood with love first, thus the meanings of all the shabad are understood in a very easy way. In many shabads, there are also two Rahau. Scholars explain that in the first Rahau there is a question and in the second Rahau there is an answer. By the way, even while doing kirtan, the Rahau should be kept as a constant/first line, meaning the shabad should start from the rhyme of Rahau.
Ghar
In Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, where the word Ghar appears in the headings, it is related to rhythms. This is a kind of instruction to the ragi jathas. This word is to be recited in this house i.e., in this rhythm. In Guru Granth Sahib Ji it is numbered from 1 to 17 (੧-੧੭). Like:
If it is written as ਸਿਰੀ ਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੧ it should be read as Siri Raag Mahla pehla ghar pehla.
If ਘਰ ੨, then it is to be read as ghar dooja.
ਘਰ ੧੨ – Ghar Baarva.
ਘਰ ੧੭ – Ghar Satarva.
Such as the title:
If it is written as ਮਹਲਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੧, then it is read as Mahla pehla ghar pehla. The pehla written before ੧, should not be read as pehla pehla or pehla ik but as pehla just once. Wherever there is ੧ it should be read as pehla.

Over here as well we are supposed to read ੨ as dooja not do (two).
ਗਉੜੀ ਗੁਆਰੇਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਚਉਥਾ
Here also it is told that we are supposed to read ੪ as Chautha.
