fasting only for the benifit of body no religious aspect in fasting for a true sikh
Gurmat does not recommend any fasting related with eating of food.
Depriving/Controlling the body functions is not going to help in any manner. But controlling the mind to a proper direction will definitely lead the body to the right direction.

Gurmat advises to understand and follow the Hukam of Akal Purkh. Self disciplining the mind in controlling the body for all sorts of actions. Such a process will lead to a successful life.
