As far as the undersigned knows, the Tenth Guru Person, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib has nowhere forbidden Sikhs from eating Halal or Kosher meat.
However, in Sikh Rehat Maryada, Halal is forbidden and Jhatka allowed. Why? No one knows because no reason is indicated.
As regards Gurbani, the Baani of the First Guru Person, Guru Nanak Sahib at Pannas 1289-1290 of Guru Granth Sahib, clearly indicates that eating meat has nothing to do with the religion. At Panna 16 of Guru Granth Sahib, the First Guru Person, Guru Nanak Sahib makes it very clear that one should not eat that food, which doesn’t suit the body and/or results in bad thoughts in the mind.
