Sikhism teaches us to be as natural as possible. Facial hair/ beard is considered a gift of the creator and should be respected.
Dear Brother/Sister,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
In response to your question, the respected learned sister Ramneet Kaur has given a short and very appropriate reply.
The undersigned wants to further add and bring to your kind notice one line at Panna 344 of Guru Granth Sahib, ‘ਰੋਮ ਰੋਮ ਮਹਿ ਬਸਹਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ॥
According to Punjabi Shabad Kosh ‘ਰੋਮ’ means ‘pore: ਅਰਥਾਤ ‘ਮੁਸਾਮ’ means ‘any small opening in the skin outer space of an animal (including human beings as well).
Further, at Panna 1084 of Guru Granth Sahib, the Guru advises us ‘ਨਾਪਾਕ ਪਾਕੁ ਕਰਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਹਦੀਸਾ ਸਾਬਤ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਦਸਤਾਰ ਸਿਰਾ ॥੧੨॥’ means not to disturb what Akalpurakh has given to you. Now the choice is of the human being, whether to remain in Akalpurakh’s Hukam or keep on fighting with Him for the entire life. This, thus, indicates the significance of Sikhs keeping beard.
Hope it helps. If you have any further questions, please do ask. If you find any deficiencies, please point out the same, for improvement in future.
Regards,
Your Brother
