Why do some Sikh females wear sindoor while others don’t, considering that sindoor isn’t part of Sikhism? Can someone provide Sikh examples from Gurbani or Sikh history to support the answer?

Respected Raj Rai ji,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
In response to your question, the undersigned wants to say that you are absolutely right that sindoor (Vermilion) is not part of Sikh culture. Similar to how a bride in a Hindu wedding wears a mangalsutra and sindoor, as a sign of marriage, a Sikh or Punjabi bride wears a chooda. Sindoor has recently been adopted by Sikh ladies from Hindu culture.
You have desired to know what Gurbani or Sikh history has to say about sindoor. No references about sindoor seem to be available in Sikh history but in Gurbani it finds a place in two stanzas. The same and their meanings are given below for your contemplation.
In the first stanza Guru Sahib is guiding us that all the items asked for by a lady for beautifying her body, to make her husband happy, are of no use if the husband doesn’t become happy. This is the meaning in the worldly sense but in spiritual sense the husband is Akalpurakh and all of us are wives. Therefore, whatsoever we do, to beautify our bodies, is of no use if we don’t get rid of vices and become virtuous.
In support of the above statement, the undersigned is quoting a Salok of Third Guru Person Guru Amardas Sahib, at Panna 592 of Guru Granth Sahib, in which he says that in this world only Akalpurakh/Parmatma is the husband and rest all are his wives.
ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਇਸੁ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਹੋਰ ਸਗਲੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਸਬਾਈ ॥ ਸਭਿ ਘਟ ਭੋਗਵੈ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 592}
Now coming to the second stanza below, in this Shabad, the first Guru Person, Guru Nanak Sahib, is painting the picture at the time of Babbar’s attack on India. If you so desire, the undersigned can quote the full Shabad and its meanings. Only one stanza relating to sindoor has been quoted below.
Hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please do ask. If you find any deficiencies, please point out the same, for improvement in future.
Regards,
Your Brother
