In Gurbani, the word Sangat has come several times and there is a lot of significance given to Sangat in Sikhism. Sangat means the congregation of like-minded people who are the seekers of truth and want to attain spiritual wisdom in their lives.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈਸੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
ਜਿਥੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀਐ
The individuals in the Sangat help each other in comprehending the truth of this universe, They learn from each other in attaining divine virtues and annihilating the vices we are born with.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ
In my opinion, Sangat can be of good books and the good thoughts too that take us closer to our real purpose in life.
A Sangat can be of any types of group of people. That can be good or bad.
In Guru Granth Sahib the acceptable ones are SatSangat, SadhSangat, GurSangat.
All of them needs the presence of Shabad Guru.
Hence, a Sikh has to have the Sangat of Shabad Guru. One can have the company of the people who are connected with the Shabad Guru (i.e. Gurmukh).
