I want to learn to read the alphabet that it’s written in. The problem is that it looks a lot like Arabic. I can’t read Arabic for some reason. Like, at all. I can’t identify a single letter despite practicing.
I can recognize words but not letters. I can read the word Allah but I can’t figure out the letters.
I’m going to have the same problem with Gurmukhi. I can recognize a few words such as Ik Onkar in Gurmukhi Script but I can’t spell it out to create new words. So I’m stuck.
I’m wondering if I could somehow read it transliterated into the English alphabet but not in the English language.
I’m sorry if this makes no sense. I’m not sure how to explain better
Gurmukhi is a simple and straight forward language. Whatever we write same way we speak.
One can learn the recognition of alphabet in a week by just spending an hour daily. Reading of words and sentences in another week. Within one month one can start reading Gurbani easily. If we put more efforts then one can start reading fluently within a week also.
You can download the required apps or videos from the internet. Please learn the Gurmukhi alphabet and start reading some sentences. This you can learn within a week if you are the beginner. Then you can then start studying Gurbani with meaning with the help of someone. You can take help from the steak of Prof Sahib Singh. You can also download my articles and books from the following websites for further understanding.

“One can learn the recognition of alphabet in a week by just spending an hour daily.”
I couldn’t learn the lithuanian alphabet in a week and it’s mostly the same as the english one. 🙂 Maybe you are a quick learner.
But I will read the articles.
download applications from playstore like:-
‘GURMUKHI’
OR
‘LEARN PUNJABI’
Yeah I will give that a try. Thank you
Okay maybe I could explain better: I have reason to believe that I might have dyslexia. But I have never been tested or diagnosed.
And I want to read in Gurmukhi script but I can’t read the script.
And I’m wondering if anyone has any advice
Please see if you can find videos on YouTube, which could help you. You can even try to locate books online. Don’t have negative feelings that you might be having dyslexia. Remain in Chardi Kala and continue your efforts to learn Punjabi/Gurmukhi.
I will try YouTube. I hadn’t thought of it. I have plenty of books but I need help learning them. It’s not a bad feeling though. I don’t mind it. I just need a workaround strategy.
“you might be having dyslexia. “
I mean you no offense, but I don’t think that you know what dyslexia is. It’s not a temporary thing that you get, it’s a reading disorder. Dyslexia is when you struggle to understand how to match sounds to letters.
But you are right:I shouldn’t give up. I need to keep trying
Know about dyslexia very well.
I hope that I did not offend you. I enjoy your insight.
Okay. My bad
