As far as i know, the Nanakshahi Calendar and the Mool Nanakshahi Calendar are closely related but have some differences. Both calendars are associated with Sikhism and are used to determine the dates of Sikh events and festivals. However, there have been changes and adjustments made over time. Here are the key differences:
Origins:
Nanakshahi Calendar: It was introduced by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in 2003 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth.
Mool Nanakshahi Calendar: It is considered a revised version of the Nanakshahi Calendar and was introduced in 2010 after making some adjustments based on feedback and discussions within the Sikh community.
Leap Year:
Nanakshahi Calendar: Originally, it did not account for leap years, causing concerns among Sikhs about the shifting of dates over time.
Mool Nanakshahi Calendar: It introduced the concept of leap years to address the issue of date drift and keep the calendar in sync with the solar year.
Start Date:
Nanakshahi Calendar: It began with the year of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth (1469 CE).
Mool Nanakshahi Calendar: It retained the same starting point as the original Nanakshahi Calendar but with adjustments to address concerns about historical accuracy.
Bikrami Calendar Correlation:
Nanakshahi Calendar: Initially, it broke away from the traditional Bikrami calendar, which was based on the lunar system.
Mool Nanakshahi Calendar: It reintroduced the alignment with the traditional Bikrami calendar for determining the dates of Sikh festivals.
