In Gurbani, what is the meaning of the word “Shabad”?
In Gurbani, a composition of a number of stanzas is generally called ‘Shabad’. Sometimes even a single stanza is also considered as a complete composition or ‘Shabad’.
Hi Brother. Thanks for the clarification. My Spanish Translation of the Guru Granth Sahib sometimes have “Shabad” alone but sometimes have the expression “The Word of the Shabad”. Does that mean “The Word of the Stanza”?
Actually, English translation of ‘Shabad’ is ‘Word’ and vice versa. Words are the blocks from which sentences are made. But in Gurbani it has a different meaning. However, is difficult for the undersigned to interpret what ‘The Word of the Shabad’ means, unless reference to the context is understood.
Well, I have seen that the Spanish translation sometimes use the original word and then next to it they put the meaning. For example “Saad Sangat, the Company of Saints”. “The Shabad, the Word”. That’s why I wanted to confirm.
Still the reference to the context is not clear, Brother.
