In response to your question, ‘Does Sikhism agree with the idea that the humans evolved from apes, as suggested by Darwin’s theory of evolution?’ the undersigned wants to say that Gurbani doesn’t contradict the said theory.
However, the First Guru Person, Guru Nanak Sahib, in Raag Maru guides us that the human body, which consists of five elements, came into existence from Akalpurakh himself:-
ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥ ਦੇਹ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਕਰਮ ਅਭਿਆਸਾ ॥ ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਦੁਇ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੀਖੇ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬੀਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥ (ਪੰਨਾ 1037)
ਅਰਥ: ਪੰਜਾਂ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਣਿਆ ਇਹ ਮਾਨੁਖੀ ਸਰੀਰ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪੇ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋਇਆ। ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਕਰਕੇ ਜੀਵ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰੁੱਝ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਤੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਪੁੰਨ (ਦੇ ਬੀਜ) ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ) ।14।
