The factual position is that Diwali is a Hindu festival, to celebrate return of their deity Sri Ramchandra , his wife Sita and brother Laxman to Ayodhya after completing fourteen years of exile.
As far as Sikhs are concerned, Diwali has nothing to do with them but they celebrate it and a myth has been created that the Sixth Guru Person, Guru Hargobind Sahib, reached Amritsar, on Diwali day, after release, from prison in Gwalior, at the hands of Mughal emperor Jahangir.
