Amar means having eternal life, never dying. Only soul or Atma is part(Ansh) of Parmatma which never dies.
Kabir ji says
Kaho Kabeer iho Raam ki ansh, Jas Kagad par mitae na mansh
Means, kabeer ji says my inside (soul) is formed of the same essence as God and it’s like ink on paper, I am now merged with Parmatma as is ink merged with with Paper. Ink can’t be separated from
Paper, same way I and God are one . This réalisation of SELF is called Being Amar
Gurbani further guides that Living in Rabbi gun (virtues) and following Hukam (Law of Nature) and staying connected to Oneness one can experience glimpses of soul consciousness (Atmik jeevan) in the form of bliss and Sahaj avastha, One who never comes down from this stage, never has Atmik death, goes beyond body consciousness and become Amar. Coming down from this Atmik stage means falling in vikaaras. Every time we fall in vikaaras we experience Atmik death. Gurbani talks about this death and not about death of body. Body is born , it has to die, everything that has beginning will have end. So Gurbani when talks about being Amar it refers to realising our true self which is divine itself, Jyot itself within us. Becoming Amar, merging with parmatma is the purpose, goal of human life. If one can live at soul level even while in body, never following prey to vikaaras (vices) as was true for our ten Guru’s, they are Amar. Atma is eternal. They came in body to help us but they are Amar because they came in body but always stayed connected to soul. In the universe of “form” experience of eternal life(being Amar) comes from living in Gurbani wisdom (Shabad ), following Hukam and as result experiencing Oneness of everything in universe along with eternal bliss (Sadivi Anand)
मन मरने से आत्मा परमात्मा में विलीन हो अमर हो जाती है।लेकिन मन को जानना और इस की मौत मनुष्य के प्रयास से असंभव है ।
केवल परमात्मा की मर्ज़ी से कृपा से ही सम्भावित है।
