I have been reading translatons of the Guru Granth Sahib. I understand that it is written in Gurmukhi (which includes parts of many languages including Punjabi). I watch a lot of videos to learn about Sikhism from basics of Sikhism youtube channel which is very informative. To fully understand the Guru Granth Sahib I understand the implications of translated versions and how one should learn Gurmukhi. Some people say you should learn Punjabi and then Gurmukhi. So my question is, would that be a better approach for a native english speaker to learn Punjabi first. I find it difficult to keep up with teachings in such videos because I think as well as English and Gurmukhi teachers often use Punjabi too and it is hard for me as an English speaker to identify the difference between Punjabi and Gurmukhi. I would like to visit a Gurdwara to find a mentor but I feel I might struggle to understand and contribute. Would you suggest I learn Punjabi before Gurmukhi? Which language is mostly spoken by Sangat in UK other than English?

Respected Brother/Sister,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!
In response to your question, the undersigned wants to say that Punjabi is a language and Gurumukhi is a script that is used to write the Punjabi language. The entire Guru Granth Sahib is written in the Gurmukhi script.
