I am unable find a quote in Gurbani directly addressing your question.
Based on my understanding of Gurbani, Communication, dialogue, is the key to resolving most such issues. Please note: Sikhi is a way of life, not a dress code.
Please keep peace in the family, even at the cost of not wearing a turban right now. Live Sikhi values. and some day soon, with mutual understanding, this, and all such issues will disappear
