      Respected Brother/Sister,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

In response to your question about the details of travel of the Tenth Nanak, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib, from Machhiwara to Nanded, the undersigned attempts to give a brief history, as under:

Following the Battle of Chamkaur in 1704, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib traveled from Machhiwara, through the Malwa region, ultimately arriving in Nanded (Deccan) in 1708. This journey included key stops at Dina, Talwandi Sabo (Damdama Sahib), and later meeting Emperor Bahadur Shah before establishing a final base at Nanded, where he passed the leadership to Guru Granth Sahib.

      Key Stages of the Journey:

      1. From Chamkaur to Machhiwara (1704): After leaving Chamkaur Garhi, Guru Sahib traveled through the jungle, enduring immense hardships with naked feet. He was assisted by supporters like Ghani Khan and Nabi Khan in Machhiwara.

      2. Malwa Region and Muktsar (1705): The Guru moved through the Malwa region, strengthening his forces. A major battle took place at Muktsar (Khidrana) in May 1705, where he fought Mughal forces.

      3. Talwandi Sabo (Damdama Sahib): The Guru stayed for over nine months at Damdama Sahib, known as the “Guru’s Kashi,” where he was reunited with his family and got the Baani of Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib included in Pothi Sahib, prepared by Guru Arjun Sahib. The Bir so compiled was known as Damdami Bir.

Also, he had sent a letter to Aurangzeb, known as Zafarnama, which was personally carried by Bhai Daya Singh to Aurangzeb. After reading the letter, Aurangzeb was filled with remorse and wanted to meet Guru Sahib, for which he issued suitable instructions but the meeting could not be possible, as Aurangzeb died.

      4. Journey to the South (1706-1707): On invitation from Aurangzeb, Guru Sahib began his journey towards the Deccan (South), but on the way he got the news of Aurangzeb’s death.

After the war of succession, between Aurangzeb’s sons, was over and Bahadur Shah became the Mughal Emperor, Guru Sahib met him at Agra, Bahadur Shah, showed due respect to Guru Sahib but didn’t resolve the issues. Also, he didn’t want Guru Sahib to return to Anandpur Sahib. Therefore, he requested Guru Sahib to travel with him to Deccan (South), where his brother had revolted.

      5. Arrival in Nanded (1708): Guru Sahib reached Nanded on the banks of the Godavari River. It was here he met Madho Das, whom he transformed into Banda Singh Bahadur and sent him to Punjab to continue the fight against oppression of the people and injustice, by the Mughal regime.

      6. Final Period and Legacy

An assassination attempt was made, by two persons, reported to have been sent by Wazir Khan, the Fauzdar of Sirhind, to prevent a potential alliance, with the Mughal Emperor, in which Guru Sahib got injured. Also, it is alleged that even Bahadur Shah was involved in the assassination attempt, on Guru Sahib.

      7. Passing the Guruship: Seeing his end near, before his death in October 1708, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib closed the physical line of Guruship, and passed on the Guruship to the Guru Granth Sahib, and it became the eternal Guru, for all times to come.

Hope it helps. If you have any further questions, please do ask. If you find any deficiencies, please point out the same, for improvement in future.

      Regards,
      Your brother
