Moh is the cause of our miseries. To function in family life and society, we need to have feelings towards our family and friends, but they should not overpower us. This is the concept of detachment in Gurbani. We must keep doing our responsibilities towards our family and society, but we should not get entangled in them. We need to remember that every entity in this universe is transient and only Naam is permanent. While leading worldly life, our consciousness should be attached to the higher and supreme consciousness.

        Hi !

Can you plz explain what do you mean by overpower?

like if someone in our family gets hurt and we feel bad for them, would it be considered MOH?

also if someone is no longer with us in this world, would remembering them be considered MOH as that makes us sad ?

No. According to my understanding, feeling bad for a family member or remembering a family member is not Moh, but it is Prem. It is natural, but what it means is that we do not need to get too much involved in these things that we forget ourselves and our real purpose, and get to the state of anxiety and depression. We need to keep working for the welfare of our family and our community, but not get bogged down if things do not go our way.

So I guess, Moh is getting too involved with someone, that you forget about God and forget what’s good or bad and stop doing your daily chores.

Thanks. Much Appreciated, It has bothered me for so many years. Finally i Understand.

      Respected Jeet ji,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

In response to your question, as understood by the undersigned, for living a purposeful life, Gurbani teaches us to always remain in Hukam, keep control on the vices (never over indulge), by becoming one with Akalpurakh and Shabad Guru, who are embodiment of each other.

For example, the undersigned gives below two Shabads and their meanings below. You can very well see that Guru Sahib is teaching us that one is not to come under the pressure of any of the vices and that can be achieved only with His blessings by becoming one with Him!

In other words, while living in the family, facing all the challenges, one has to become righteous/ virtuous (Gurmukh), control the vices and achieve the stage of spiritual equipoise and spiritual bliss and finally achieve spiritual emancipation/salvation in this life itself!

Hope it helps. If you have any further questions, please do ask. If you find any deficiencies, please point out the same, for improvement in future.

      Regards,
      Your brother
