      Respected Brother/Sister,

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

In response to your question the undersigned wants to say that as per Collins Dictionary, Sardar ji is a title used for Sikh men, who wear turban (Dastar). Accordingly, Sikh women are called Sardarni ji.

The Sikh turban (Dastar) is a sacred article of faith. It represents equality, courage, discipline, and commitment to stand against injustice.

The undersigned will like to add that the Dastār is our Guru’s gift to us. It is how we crown ourselves as the Singhs and Kaurs, who sit on the throne of commitment, to our own higher consciousness. For men and women alike, this projective identity conveys royalty, grace, and uniqueness. It is a signal to others that we live in the image of Infinity and are dedicated to serving all. The turban doesn’t represent anything except complete commitment. When you choose to stand out by tying your Dastār, you stand fearlessly as one single person standing out from six billion people. It is a most outstanding act.

Please read more about Dastar by clicking on the link below:-

Now coming to Dastar Bandi, it is very much prevalent in Sikh families, who understand its importance, but doesn’t get highlighted because it is a family affair.

However, it has got highlighted in case of young Maharaja of Nabha, because Maharaja Ripudaman Singh of Nabha had stood with Sikhs, at a critical time of history and was not only dethroned but was exiled. It is refreshing to note that a young boy of this family has come back to be part of his Sikh ancestral lineage. Let us all bless this young child and pray for his Chardi Kala always!

Hope it helps. If you have any further questions, please do ask. If you find any deficiencies, please point out the same, for improvement in future.

      Regards,

      Your Brother
