Who were the ‘Chaali Mukte’ i.e. the ones referred to in the Sikh ‘Ardas’ ?
There is no mention of Chali Muktay in Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
It is historic incident. And there is a lot of adulteration in the Sikh history.
As best as I can find out. In brief it is:
Forty Sikh under the leadership of Bhai Mahan Singh resigned form Guru Sahib’s army just before the attack by Mogul forces at KHIDRANAY DI DHAAB, but when they reached their homes, Mai Bhago shamed them and lead them back into the battle. The Mogul army was successfully repulsed and Guru Sahib forgave the Mahan Singh and forty Sikhs for their resignation.
