A SIKH in general sense is a student, follower, learner. Those who adopted the teachings of GURU NANAK were called SIKHS. Therefore in traditional terms those who claim to be followers of GURU NANAK, now followers of SGGSJI are called SIKHS.
This is continuation of answer below. In spiritual terms who so ever in the whole world contemplate, understand, internalize and live the WISDOM OF SHABAD, BANI in daily life is a SIKH. Culturally I am a SIKH, but spiritually I may be far from being a SIKH.
