When Sri Guru Arjan Dev Maharaj Ji completed the first edition of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in 1604 and
called it Sri Adi Granth. This first edition was scribed by Bhai Gurdas Ji under the supervision of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. The first procession was organized to Sri Darbar Sahib and Sri Adi Granth was installed upon the throne.
Guru Ji himself sat at a lower position with sangat. Guru Ji instructed the sangat on how to show respect to the divine word, At this time, Baba Buddha Ji was requested to fulfill the service of being the first Granthi. Baba Budda Ji then took the first Hukamnama of Sri Adi Granth sahib ji
