Gurmat living in a modern, competitive world means participating fully in work, ambition, and responsibility while remaining inwardly grounded, ethically steady, and free from ego-based anxiety.
It allows competition without hostility, success without arrogance, failure without collapse, and power without domination. The world does not change, but the way one stands within it does.
Gurmat is not withdrawal from life, it is clarity within life.

By being righteous/virtuous (Gurmukh) and living in Akalpurakh’s Hukam (Divine Law). This is what has been taught, by Guru Granth Sahib, in the first Pauri of Jap Baani, in which Guru Sahib has guided as under:

According to Professor Sahib Singh, who has given meanings of all the Shabads in Guru Granth Sahib Darpan, the entire Guru Granth Sahib is explanation of these two Pangtis.

Sikhi is neither confined to path of knowledge and nor simply to devotion. Sikhi is a complete way of living to have a successful life and become Sachyaar.
The first sentence of Guru Granth Sahib clearly gives the Definition of Akal Purkh (God) as below:
Hukam and Will of Akal Purkh are very much different from our dictionary which we propagate with each other. Hukam is not the order, as the bosses or elders give to us. Hukam is related with the laws of nature or Rules and regulations of Akal Purkh according to which whole universe is functioning since its origin. Guru Nanak Sahib has clearly defined the principle of Sikhism as
Jap – 1
Everything or event happens according to His Hukam, i.e. laws of nature.
Jap – 1
There are reasons for each and every incidence or happening. We have to analyze them in detail at physical and mental level. Hukam operating at physical level can be understood with the help of science and other fields. Hukam operating at mental level can be understood with the help of Guru Granth Sahib.
Please also note that, the Will (ਰਜਾ) of Akal Purkh is not like our will and wish, but it is a deep-rooted Hukam, which is beyond our limits of understanding. We can understand the physical laws to some extent with the help of science. But we have to study Guru Granth Sahib to understand the laws applicable at mental level.
Anyone who does not try to understand the Hukam of the Akal Purkh according to which the whole universe is functioning both at mental level and physical level, keeps on suffering in his life. Such a person remains in the illusion and does not lead a comfortable and peaceful life.
We have to perform our duties according to His system. If we do not put food in our mouth, nobody is going to do for us. We have to work for our livelihood and also live in a coordinated system for a peaceful life.
All types of aspects of life have been described in Guru Granth Sahib.
We can get enlightened and lead a comfortable and successful life by understanding and following the Gurbani written in Guru Granth Sahib.
Please start studying Gurbani in a systematic manner. All the questions will get clarified during this process automatically.

The teachings of Gurmat are timeless and applicable to all ages, enabling individuals to lead a peaceful and fulfilling life. The main tenet of Gurmat is to get rid of the vices and to attain the wisdom of Shabad Guru to connect with our creator to lead a virtuous life.
