Dear Bani Kaur Ji,
There is nothing religious about it, it is just the respect and love.
The following writings clearly describe that there is no importance for nakedness.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji in Akal Ustat – 14
Bhai Gurdaas Ji – 36
Safety and security are more important. Barefooted is required for cleanliness in the Gurdwara Sahib, but not on roads.
Hence, this is just a ritual only. One can wear shoes for safety on roads.
