Yesterday at a wedding, I noticed the bride's brothers standing next to Guru Granth Sahib while she was taking the pheras. Who started this tradition, and what is the history behind it? Also, is this practice allowed in Sikhism? I personally didn't like it.

There is no such tradition and there is no history. It is nothing but manmat of some individuals. Sikhism doesn’t allow it.
