Sikhism on Magic!

Anonymous
Anonymous

This is a very uneasy subject for me – but i wish to know what Sikhi says about black magic. I hear all these strange and scary stories!
My thought is there is no such thing and no one can do anything to you especially if you do your paath.
Would love more indepth answer about this?

Also would like to know, if Sikhi doesnt believe init then why do Sikhs do it – especially in India!!!!!

      Respected Ji
You have asked a very good question. In fact, whenever one’s mental state does not work properly, one does not have self-confidence, one is illiterate, then sometimes some people resort to magic. But we have to take every guidance from Gurbani in our life. There is a hukum of Gurbani about magic.
In this Kaman means sorcery. That is to say, Sat Sangiyo, let us prepare magic sorcery of the Parmaatma’s virtues. Let us color our minds with the auspicious teachings of the Parmaatma.
Meaning the Lord Husband has to be happy with the auspicious virtues. Through the Guru’s wisdom all the sorcerers can get out of their mind.
There are many more Hukums in Gurbani which by reading and understanding we find out that these magic spells are all illusions. People who do all these rituals also do it due to their ignorance. People have just limited themselves to going to the Gurudwara as a ritual but what we all are supposed to do is to read and understand the Gurbani as well. So please read and understand Gurbani yourself. Live your life according to Gurbani so that you don’t get caught up in any magic.

Mandeep Kaur Ji has explained very well. To add, this is all superstition Bharam. Those who believe in it get affected psychologically and who don’t never any effect.
Footto Aanda Bharam Ka Manehi Bhaeiou Pargas || Kati Beri Pageh Te Gur Kini Band Khalas ||1|
Guru says Superstition, Bharam is like an egg. When mother bird breaks the egg from outside, another life comes out of it. In the same way when Guru’s knowledge and wisdom breaks egg of delusional superstition, then a new spiritual life begins. Guru gave example of egg, not a pot of superstition. When pot breaks, whatever is in the pot spreads out everywhere, but when egg breaks it gives new life. So all such superstitions are false and Guru condemns them.
