Should we support Shri Ram Mandir?

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

In response to your question, the undersigned wants to say that though a political game has been played, in which it has been made out that the Sikhs were involved in the Ram Mandir movement but when seen in the light of Gurbani, it emerges that the Sikhs are neither for/against Ram Mandir or Babri Masjid because the Guru teaches us that Akalpurakh is within and if anyone tries to find Him outside then he is deluded by doubt. One, who has found Him within is happy in every situation:-

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਟੋਲੈ ਸੋ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਹੀ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ (ਪੰਨਾ 102)

ਅਰਥ: ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਭੀ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸਾਰਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਬਾਹਰ ਭਟਕਣ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਾਹਰ ਸੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ) ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।1।

MAAJH, FIFTH MEHL: Everything is within the home of the self; there is nothing beyond. One who searches outside is deluded by doubt. By Guru’s Grace, one who has found the Lord within is happy, inwardly and outwardly. || 1 ||

Further, please be kind to read the following Shabad of Fifth Guru Person, Guru Arjun Sahib, located at Panna 1136 of Guru Granth Sahib:-

ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਵਰਤ ਨ ਰਹਉ ਨ ਮਹ ਰਮਦਾਨਾ ॥ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਜੋ ਰਖੈ ਨਿਦਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਏਕੁ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਅਲਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਤੁਰਕ ਦੁਹਾਂ ਨੇਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਹਜ ਕਾਬੈ ਜਾਉ ਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਪੂਜਾ ॥ ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੨॥ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਉ ਨ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਗੁਜਾਰਉ ॥ ਏਕ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਲੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਉ ॥੩॥ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਨ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ॥ ਅਲਹ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਰਾਨ ॥੪॥ ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਖਾਨਾ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਖੁਦਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੫॥੩॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 1136}

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਦੇ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਵਿਚ) ਮੈਂ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਰਕ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ। ਮੇਰਾ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਹ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੂ) ਗੁਸਾਈਂ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ) ਅੱਲਾ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ) ।1। ਰਹਾਉ।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ (ਹਿੰਦੂ ਦੇ) ਵਰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਦੇ) ਰਮਜ਼ਾਨ ਦੇ ਮਹੀਨੇ (ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖੇ ਰੋਜ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ) । ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ (ਸਿਰਫ਼) ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਖ਼ਿਰ (ਹਰੇਕ ਦੀ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।1।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਨਾਹ ਕਾਬੇ ਦਾ ਹੱਜ ਕਰਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) , ਨਾਹ ਮੈਂ (ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ) ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ (ਸਿਮਰਦਾ) ।2।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਨਾਹ (ਹਿੰਦੂਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਵੇਦ-) ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ (ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਵਾਂਗ) ਨਿਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਅੱਗੇ) ਸਿਰ ਨਿਵਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।3।

ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਨਾਹ ਅਸੀਂ ਹਿੰਦੂ (ਦੇ ਮੁਥਾਜ) ਹਾਂ, ਨਾਹ ਅਸੀਂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ (ਦੇ ਮੁਥਾਜ) ਹਾਂ। ਸਾਡੇ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਾਡੀ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ (ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ) ਅੱਲਾ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੂ) ਰਾਮ (ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ) ।4।

ਹੇ ਕਬੀਰ! ਆਖ– (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ-ਪੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ।5।3।

BHAIRAO, FIFTH MEHL: I do not keep fasts, nor do I observe the month of Ramadaan. I serve only the One, who will protect me in the end. || 1 || The One Lord, the Lord of the World, is my God Allah. He adminsters justice to both Hindus and Muslims. || 1 || Pause || I do not make pilgrimages to Mecca, nor do I worship at Hindu sacred shrines. I serve the One Lord, and not any other. || 2 || I do not perform Hindu worship services, nor do I offer the Muslim prayers. I have taken the One Formless Lord into my heart; I humbly worship Him there. || 3 || I am not a Hindu, nor am I a Muslim. My body and breath of life belong to Allah — to Raam — the God of both. || 4 || Says Kabeer, this is what I say: meeting with the Guru, my Spiritual Teacher, I realize God, my Lord and Master. || 5 || 3 ||

In this Shabad, Guru Sahib is making it absolutely clear that Sikhi has nothing to do with either Hinduism or Islam or their rituals because the Akalpurakh is within.

In view of the above position, the Sikhs are neither for or against anyone, but they need to remain careful about the political games being played by using their name.
