Please allow me to mention that actual name for this building is Darbar Sahib Amritsar.
British, for their ease, termed it Golden Temple. Now that British have been turned out we must refer to it by its correct name, Darbar Sahib Amritsar.
It was first built during the time of Guru Arjan Sahib Ji starting in 1588. The foundation stone was laid by the Saen Mian Mir, a Muslim Saint from Lahore It attacked twice by Afghan invaders in eighteenth. It was covered with foil of Gold during the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1830. It was last attached by Indian Government Military forces in June 1984.
