I’m not sure about who started it but I have seen more and more single/windowed mothers perform palle di rasam
If we have gender equality then we don’t need this ritual
This is part of the Sikh Rehat Maryada, developed by a committee of Sikhs.
There is no such reference in Bani of Guru Granth Sahib.
As per Gurbani, there is complete gender equality. Having said that either parent from either side could do the RITUAL.
As per Gurbani, daughter is an equaly good human being, and not an item to be given/gifted away. Therefore the roots of this RITUAL are copied form elsewhere, not based on Gurbani message.
