      The goal before a person is to change life, as per teachings of Guru Granth Sahib, get rid of vices, become a righteous/virtuous person (ਸਚਿਆਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ/ਗੁਰਮੁਖ), become one with Akalpurakh and Shabad Guru, who are spiritually embodiment of each other and achieve the stage of spiritual equipoise (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ) and spiritual bliss (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਆਨੰਦ). The final goal is to achieve emancipation/salvation in this life itself

      ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ– ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਸੁਣ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ) ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਹ ਸਕਦਾ, ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਹ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਡੋਲਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ) ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਸਾਖਿਆਤ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ।13।

      Respected Brother/Sister,
      Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

      In response to your question about passing a resolution, in the new year, the undersigned wants to draw your attention to the following teaching of Guru Granth Sahib, in Sukhmani Sahib, in which Guru Sahib is guiding that always consider Akalpurakh with you, change your life, get rid of vices, which will save you from worries in your mind/ consciousness (ਮਨ, ਅੰਤਹਕਰਨ, ਜ਼ਮੀਰ):-

      ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸੁਨਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਪੇਖੁ ॥ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਉਤਰੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥ ਆਸ ਅਨਿਤ ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਤਰੰਗ ॥ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੰਗ ॥ ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਹੁ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਹੁ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਧਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ {ਪੰਨਾ 295}

      ਅਰਥ: (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਣ, ਤੇ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਨੂੰ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਨੇੜੇ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਦੰਮ-ਬ-ਦੰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ, (ਤਾਂ ਜੁ) ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਏ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਨਿੱਤ ਨਾਹ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ (ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ) ਆਸਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਹਰਾਂ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਹ, ਅਤੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ ਮੰਗ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ, (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪੀ ਧਨ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਭਰ ਲੈ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰ।1।

      Once a person accepts this teaching and practices it day in and day out then he will be on the path of becoming a Gurmukh. Thus, he will change his life, live a disciplined life, get rid of vices and become a righteous person (ਸਚਿਆਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ), become one with Akalpurakh and Shabad Guru, who are spiritually embodiment of each other, reach the stage of spiritual equipoise (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ) and spiritual bliss (ਆਤਮਿਕ ਆਨੰਦ) and finally achieve spiritual emancipation/salvation (enlightenment) in this life itself (ਜੀਵਨ ਮੁਕਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ).

      Thus, accepting and applying this teaching of Guru Sahib, will put the person on the right path of getting rid of worries, in the mind, and help him to always remain in Chardi Kala. But the condition is that this teaching has to be applied, day in and day out with no ifs and buts.

      As understood by the undersigned, it will be beneficial to pass such a resolution.

      Hope it helps. If you have any further questions, please do ask. If you find any deficiencies, please point out the same, for improvement in future.

      Regards,
      Your Brother
