Modern days, some gurusikh families are starting to add their family name after Singh and Kaur. Is that acceptable after what Guru Gobind Singh ji said about keeping casts out of the last names?

Thank you so much for asking very pertinent question.
As per Gurbani, the entire humanity is one family, everyone is Created from the same material and same JYOT (light, spirit).
It is the people who have divided the society into clans, classes, castes, religions etc.
Sikh are taught that Guru Gobind Singh Ji, at the time of KHANDAY DI PAHUL ceremony on VAISAKHI 1699 directed everyone to shed their caste and join one caste, Singh a warrior caste among Rajputs, for the males. I am unable to answer why he asked the ladies to use the KUAR, a different last name.
Going back to using caste/sub caste as the last name to show superiority, is inconsistent with the Sikhi Philosophy. However, using name of one’s village or some such thing that does not indicate inequality of the caste/subcaste is not inconsistent. As a person from village KAIRON, used KAIRON as last name to distinguish himself from other people with the same first name, is acceptable.
Hope this helps.
