Question – The question on my mind is many Sikhs light a Jot. Does this have any significance in our Religion?

Dear Respected Scholars please answer this question.
In earlier times when there was no power at all, or no power connections at many places, a candle or Diya was lit to dispell darkness and to read Gurbani. This practice took the shape of a tradition and became a common practice. This routine practice became a kind of accepted Maryada, which carried on for generations till today !
Another angle which is also relevant in this practice is, the Hindu religion ancient practice of worshipping Sun and Fire by lighting candles and Diyas with oil or ghee. Many new entrants in Sikhi carried forward this practice in their routine due to the lack of knowledge.
In some Gurdwaras this flame of a Diya is given similar reverence as of Hindu rituals which is against the teachings of Gurbani and Gurmat.
We should proactively try to educate the Sikh Pujaris to stop this ritual wherever it is being practiced.
