This is more of a history question than of Sikhi Philosophy;
The Gurbani search showns “Nanak”, “Angad”, “Arjan” as single names.
The “Dev” does occur in few palces with the name Nanak and apears to be an adjective. The is no “Dev” attached to Angad, or ARJAN.
If “Dev” was integral part of the name, Gurbani would have mentioned full name as in the case of AMARDAS, and RAMDAS, in place of half names like NANAK, ANGAD, and ARJAN.
Another example is the way they are mentione in first part of the ARDAS recited at Gurduara Sahibs,
Pritham Bhagat’ee simar kaae Guroo Nanak laeen’ D’hiaa-ae.
Phir Angad, Guroo t’ae Amar-Daas Ram-Daas-aae hoeen’ sahaa-ae.
Arjan Hargobind no simro Sree Har Raae.
Sree Har-Kishan d’hiaa-ee-aae jis dit’haae sabhe dukhe jaa-aae
Teg-Bahaad’ur simri-aae ghar naau nid’he aavaae d’haa-e.
Sabh thaa-een’ ho-e sahaa-e.
Thank you Basi ji for an exhaustive explanation, and asserting that word Dev is redundant and superfluous.
Word “Dev” has been added to the name of the First Founding Master covertly by radicals and advocates of Sanatan Dharma to portray Baba Nanak as a Devta or an Avtaar, so that he could later be designated as an Avtar of God Vishnu.
A glaring example is the naming of the University at Amritsar (Chakk Guroo), which was initially named as Guru Nanak University.
However, soon the Hindoo Mahasha lobby started objecting to the name, even when they should have had little interest in the issue. They mounted so much of pressure that hapless Sikhs had to give in and rename it as Guru Nanak Dev University !!
Lately, it is felt that lmost of the Sikh leadership is clueless and splineless and that is why we have to face embarrassments in most issues.
We would personally like to request the readers to mount pressure on all those in the habit of adding Dev inadvertently to the names of the Guru Sahiban, and explain them forcefully to check this Anti Gurmat practice. ????
